Account and Data Deletion

Last updated: 2026-08-22

If you want to leave, we will not make it difficult. This page explains how to delete your Vocabulary Forest account and the data attached to it, what disappears when you do, and which records we are legally required to hold on to for a while longer.

In short

There are two ways to delete your account: from the settings section inside the app, or by emailing info@vocabularyforest.com. Both lead to the same outcome.

Removing the app from your phone does not delete your account. Uninstalling only removes the copy on your device; your account and your forest stay in the cloud.

Deletion cannot be undone. Please read the table below before you go ahead.

Deleting from inside the app

This is the quickest route and needs no extra verification, since you are already signed in.

  • Sign in to the app with the account you want to delete
  • Open the settings section inside the app
  • Choose the account deletion option under the account heading
  • Read the on-screen warning and confirm the deletion
  • You are signed out once you confirm, and the deletion process begins

The exact wording of these steps may differ slightly between app versions. If you cannot find the option, update the app or use the email route below.

Requesting deletion by email

If you cannot sign in, or you would rather have the request in writing, email info@vocabularyforest.com. Account deletion request in the subject line is enough.

Sending from the address registered to your account is fastest, because it completes identity verification in a single step.

  • The email address on your account
  • The platform you use: iOS or Android
  • What you want deleted: the whole account, or only specific data
  • If you are writing from a different address, anything that shows the account is yours (roughly when you signed up, a purchase receipt if you have one)

Do not email us your password, card details, or a photo of your ID. We do not need any of those to verify you.

Verifying your identity

Before deleting an account we have to be confident the request comes from its owner. Otherwise someone acting in bad faith could have another person's forest wiped.

If your request comes from the account's registered address, we ask for nothing further. If it comes from a different address, we send a confirmation message to the account's email address.

If we cannot verify the request, we will not carry out the deletion, and we will write and tell you why.

What is deleted, and what stays

Once your request is confirmed, the table below applies. The periods run from the moment of confirmation.

DataWhat happensTimeframe
Account ID, email address, display namePermanently deletedWithin 30 days
Word progress, review history, study streaks, adventure mode resultsPermanently deletedWithin 30 days
Forest state: animals, plants, sculptures, the names you gave them, their positions, land health, rain pointsPermanently deletedWithin 30 days
Gold, diamonds, quest progress, wheel spins, market itemsPermanently deleted; balances are not converted to money or refundedWithin 30 days
BackupsDrop out as the backup rotation completesWithin 90 days
Purchase and invoice recordsRetained to meet legal record-keeping obligations, detached from your accountThe period required by applicable tax and commercial law
Support correspondence and the record of your deletion requestKept as proof that the request was carried outUp to 2 years
Crash and technical logsKept in a form that cannot be traced back to youUp to 12 months

How long does it take?

We confirm in writing that we have received your request within 3 days.

Your account and the data attached to it are deleted within 30 days. In most cases it is considerably faster.

Copies held in backups drop out within 90 days as the backup rotation completes. During that window backups are accessed only for disaster recovery; your account is never brought back into service.

This cannot be undone

Once deletion is complete we cannot restore your forest, your word progress, or your balances. With no copy left on our side, it is not technically possible either.

You are welcome to register again with the same email address, but the new account starts with an empty forest and has no connection to your previous progress.

If you want a copy of your data, ask for it at info@vocabularyforest.com before you request deletion. Once deletion has started it is no longer possible.

What happens to purchases

Deleting your account is not a refund. Unused gold, diamonds, and market items are not reimbursed.

If you want a refund, start it before deleting your account, through the store you bought from: Apple's refund flow on iOS, your Google Play order history on Android.

If you have an active subscription, cancel it in your store account before deleting. Subscriptions are managed by the store, so deleting the account may not stop renewals on its own.

Alternatives to deleting

You may just want a break without losing your forest. There are a few gentler options.

  • Turn off notifications: switch them off in your device settings and the app will leave you alone while your progress waits where you left it
  • Just sign out: signing out deletes nothing, and you can come back whenever you want
  • Ask for partial deletion: you can request that we delete only your support correspondence, for example
  • Ask for a copy of your data: you can export your progress and forest data before deleting anything

Even a dried-out forest is never lost. One rainfall after you return brings the land back to full health.
